So Dale asked how many LEDs can you put in a line using the 12F683, and the 19 LED stick was created. Designed for 19 3mm LEDs, but you can get fancy and mount 5mm LEDs on both sides.
It is a 0.6 by 8.25 double-sided circuit circuit board with a hole for hanging from a lariat, that requires assembly and soldering. It has 19 LEDs controlled by a PIC processor. This allows for some fairly intricate blinking patterns. And yes, there is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkie boards.
